THE first ever Goodwill Gallery Kiddies Open Chess Tournament 2012 is expected to draw Cebu’s best junior wood pushers to compete on Aug. 4 and 5 at the J Center Mall in Mandaue City.
The tournament adopts a seven-round Swiss System format with 25 minutes allotted per round.
University of San Carlos’ (USC) young players led by Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano and Vic Glysen Derotas are the event’s top contenders along with Cebu Chess Festival Grand champion Allan Pason.
The Balbuena siblings are also expected to compete in the tournament which will have a Ladies 20 years-old and below and Boys 16 years-old and below divisions.
Tournament fee is P150 each player. The champion will take home P1,000 while the second and third placers will get P600 and P400, respectively. The fourth placer will get P200.
