MCWD water well opens in Pit-os, Talamban
AROUND 600 households in barangays Pit-os and Talamban will benefit from a well that the Metropolitan Cebu Water District recently opened and commissioned to its water system.
Residents in the suspended areas of these barangays can now apply for new water service connections.
Engr. Edgar Ortega, MCWD Distribution division manager, revealed that the well has been existing since the early 90s. However, because of the water’s high manganese content, it was not distributed to the consumers.
The personnel of the Production and Distribution Division developed an iron manganese treatment equipment after they visited Sultan Kudarat for an immersion trip.
Sultan Kudarat’s water is also high in manganese and its water district designed an equipment to correct this.
MCWD invested around P2 million to develop the treatment equipment.
The well now produces 600 cubic meters of water a day. The well was blessed by Rev. Fr. Nelson Atillo of the Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel in Jaclupan, Talisay City.
