The Danao City Council will file contempt charges against Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano, Jr. if he does not comply today with a court order for him to pay salaries of 238 casual employees of the city.
Danao City Councilor John Cane said the local legisalture is giving the mayor until today to comply with the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued last week by Regional Trial Court Judge Sylvia Aquirre-Paderanga of Branch 25.
The councilor spoke during the 888 News Forum on Tuesday.
Mayor Durano has been adamant against paying salary claims of the 238 casuals employed by the City Council presided over by his estranged brother Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano.
The unpaid salaries has accumulated to P43 million.
The court TRO stopped the enforcement of a memorandum issued by Mayor Durano suspending the payments of salaries of the 238 casual workers.
The mayor’s lawyer Gloria Lastimosa-Dalawampu said earlier that the budget for the saleries were unlawfully inserted in the budget.
She said the 238 casual workers were not included in the proposed budget for 2012 since their “services have ended.”
Meanwhile, a reconciliation of warring factions of the Durano clan in Danao has become remote according to Cebu 5th district Rep. Ramon “Red” Durano VI.
With personal matters being brought up against them, reconciliation won’t happen between the camp of Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano and elder brothers Boy, the Danao City mayor, and Don, said the congressman.
“There’s room for reconciliation but I don’t think at present that would happen. They have brought up personal issues which I think really hurt my dad,” he said, referring to Nito.
Rep. Durano who is the new chairman of the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasaya (Bakud) party, also belied Mayor Boy’s claim that their party could not win in Danao City.
“It’s a fact that during the 2010 elections, 97 percent of the Bakud candidates won,” he said.
“We will just wait for the 2013 elections. I’ll just let the facts of the previous elections speak for themselves,” he added.
“Nanghadlok Papa Boy nga dili makadaug ang Bakud kay wala siya’y pildi, pildi sa Danao, but in 2001 to 2007, nagpaluyo siya sa Bakud,” he said.
(Papa Boy is issuing threats that Bakud will not win in Danao because he has not lost ever since. But from 2001 to 2007, in those wins, Bakud was behind him.)
“The people of Danao no longer trust him. That’s why he needs to bank on the camp of Papa Don,” he added.
