MANILA, Philippines – The family of a freshman from the San Beda College of Law who died allegedly after initiation rites of a fraternity urged the Department of Justice (DoJ) on Tuesday to launch a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
A Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said that members of the family of Mark Andrei Marcos were devastated upon learning about the extent of his injuries he suffered before he died.
In another report, the San Beda College of Law student government said that they were saddened by a fellow student’s demise and condemned the brutality he was subjected.
Authorities said that Marcos was covered in bruises and had fallen into a comatose when he was brought by a group of young men to the De La Salle University Medical Center in Dasmarinas City before dawn Monday.
He died at around 5 p.m. and was brought to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory at past 9 p.m.
A worker from the funeral parlor which transferred the body to Camp Crame told Radyo Inquirer that Marcos suffered bruises on his shoulders and thighs.
One of the victim’s siblings told Radyo Inquirer 990AM that they had earlier warned Marcos from joining a fraternity.
Marvin Reglos, also a student from San Beda College of Law, died after undergoing hazing rites of the Lambda Rho Beta fraternity in February.
