THE party of Jonathan Guardo where he ran unsuccessfully against incumbent Cebu City south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña belied claims they have disintegrated.
Leaders loyal to Kugi Uswag Sugbo (Kusug) claim that Guardo’s support to Osmeña is his personal decision and not reflective of their party.
Punta Princesa barangay captain Jose Navarro said Kusug leader Alvin Garcia only needs to call for a meeting so that their group could reconvene and discuss their 2013 election plans.
Navarro claimed Kusug is supporting Mayor Michael Rama in 2013.
Garcia earlier said that while he and Osmeña are now in talking terms, his preference is to support Rama.
In an earlier interview, Garcia said he dislikes Osmeña’s effort to block almost all projects of Rama, which is no longer good for the city
Lahug councilor Mary Ann delos Santos, another Kusug leader is in the Team Rama slate for councilor.
Rama said even with Jonathan’s support for Osmeña, he is confident that his brother, Sambag 1 barangay captain Jerry Guardo will remain with Team Rama.
He said that having siblings in two different political parties is no longer new in politics.
Jonathan admitted that he has yet to discuss with his younger brother, Jerry, his pledge of support for Osmeña.
But since the filing of Certificates of Candidacy will be in October yet, a lot of things could still happen between now and October, he said.
Rama said Jerry is one of their City Council bets in the south district.
The mayor said Team Rama is already complete.
He said this belies the mockery of his rivals that he doesn’t have any political clout. /Doris C. Bongcac, Chief of Reporters
