Americans to officiate Casimero title defense in Mexico

THE IBF world junior flyweight title clas between defending champion Johnriel Casimero of the Omega Gym of Cebu and challenger Pedro Guevara of Mexico will be officiated by an all-American panel.

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani informed  by e-mail that the IBF fight supervisor will be Daryl Peoples and the assigned referee is Ray Corona of California.

Corona’s last assignment was the IBF jr.middleweight title bout held last June 30 in California where Cornelius Bundrage stopped Cory Spinks in seven rounds.

The three judges scoring the fight are Levi Martinez of New Mexico, Dr. Ruben M. Garcia of Texas and Matthew Podgorski of Illinois.

Casimero’s first defense of his title will take place at the Centro de Convenciones in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico on the morning of Aug. 5 (Philippine Time).

Casimero (16W-2L, 10 KOs) will try to erase the stigma of his split decision loss in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico two years ago at the hands of Ramon Garcia Hirales. Guevara (18W-0L—1D, 13 KOs) is undefeated and is fighting for a world title for the first time. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
