ILOILO CITY, Philippines—Robbers struck a Western Union money transfer shop near a police detachment in Iloilo City at noon Monday, carting away a still undetermined amount of cash.
Three employees of the shop were held at gunpoint but left unharmed, said Senior Superintendent Marietto Valerio, Iloilo City police director.
The robbers waited for the shop’s lone security guard to leave the shop and buy lunch before one of them entered the store and pretended to be a client. The other assailant stayed at the shop’s entrance, said Valerio.
The robber held the three female employees at gunpoint and ordered them to lie on the floor as he took the money from the cash drawers. A client, who was inside the store during the robbery, was left unharmed.
The shop along Sen. Benigno Aquino Avenue in Mandurriao district is around 100 meters from a police detachment.
Valerio said the robbers wore no masks, adding that the shop’s employees were in the process of determining the amount of the stolen cash, which included the store’s earnings for the whole morning.
