Couple kidnapped in Jolo

ZAMBOANGA CITY—As authorities were still  trying to recover naturalized American Gerfa Yeatts Lunsmann and her son from their suspected abductors, armed men struck in Jolo on Wednesday evening and kidnapped a couple, the police said Thursday.

Superintendent John Morales, Sulu police chief, said the victims, ambulant vendors selling cooking utensils, were inside their boarding house when forcibly taken with another victim around 8 p.m.

The abducted couple was identified by Jolo Police Chief Inspector Glen Gabor as Jose M. Batronel, 57, and Rosely Villadore, 37.

One of the suspects fired his gun while dragging the victims toward their getaway vehicle that was described as a red Tamaraw without plate number, Gabor said.

The third victim, the couple’s helper who was identified as Julie Latorre, managed to escape and is now in the custody of Jolo police, Gabor said.

One empty shell and a bullet slug of .45 caliber pistol were recovered at the scene, he added. With Danica Hermogenes, INQUIRER.net
