THE Visayan Electric Company (Veco) sponsored an educational tour for the 100 pupils from San Fernando Central Elementary School and Naga Central Elementary School last June 15.
The educational tour aimed to orient the children about the religious, historical and cultural heritage in Cebu.
The children visited the Cebu Cathedral Museum, Fort San Pedro and Museo Sugbo.
Veco Community Relations manager Eric Ching also brought the children to Julian Jumalon’s Butterfly Sanctuary and Archival’s Eco House.
Jumalon butterfly sanctuary owned by the late Julian Jumalon houses the oldest collection of butterflies.
In the eco house of former Cebu City councilor Nestor Archival, children were taught to conserve water by collecting rain water to cut costs on water bills. The harvested rainwater can be used to water plants, wash cars, bathe animals, fill water fountain, among others.
They were also taught to recycle biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. Archival collects vegetable and fruit wastes daily and convert them into organic feeds for his animals.
Archival’s eco house is powered by renewable energies, such as solar, wind and bio-gas.
