New storm ‘Gener’ hovers over Visayas

AN active low pressure area spotted in eastern Philippines has developed into a storm, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the center of storm Gener was at Virac town, Catanduanes with  65 kilometer per hour winds.  By this afternoon, the storm is expected to be near  Aurora.

Public storm warning signal number 1 was hoisted over  Isabela, Cagayan, including Babuyan and Calagayan Group of Islands and Batanaes.

Frequent rains are expected over Central and Southern Luzon, and Visayas particularly over the western section due to enhance southweatern monsoon.

The weather will be overcast today in Cebu and the rest of Central Visayas with light showers from Monday to Wednesday.

Pagasa Mactan weather analyst Ella Comahig advised people to bring umbrellas and raincoats.

Fisherman, especially those using small sea vessels, should avoid going to the deep, she said.

Comahig said those living in landslide  and flood-prone areas  should stay alert and monitor their situation. Reporter Ador Vincent Mayol
