Silvano, Cabilla promise exciting main event for PBF 108-lb title at J Centre Mall

Philippine No.1 light flyweight contender Vergilio “Maton” Silvano (11-2, 6KOs) of the Omega Boxing Stable  and Charlie “Steelbar” Cabilla (12-10, 2KOs) of Bukidnon dispute the vacant PBF 108-pound crown tonight in the main event of the “Fight Fury” boxing series at the J Centre Mall convention hall along A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.

Silvano tipped the scales at 108 lbs during yesterday’s official weigh-in at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) office.  Cabilla had to shed off a half a pound to make the weight limit.

Both fighters promised to give it their all in today’s important match.

“I came here to win the title and I promised myself and my coach that I will bring home the title,” said Cabilla.

Silvano, on the other hand, said he will aim to knock out Cabilla in the seventh or sixth round.

Silvano, the pride of Dalaguete, Cebu, has sparred with current IBF light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero. He is looking to score his 11th  straight win.

In his last outing last May 11, Silvano destroyed Jonathan Ricablanca in the sixth in San Isidro, Leyte.

“I trained hard because I really want to get the belt,” said Silvano. “I know like me, he (Cabilla) is also a strong puncher. But I am ready to knock him out in our fight.”

For his part, the former Philippine 105-lb division champion Cabilla will bank on his experience as he aims to score an upset against the more favored Silvano.

The Bukidnon-native Cabilla fought for the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title last year but was beaten by Heri Amol in Indonesia.

In his last fight on May 20 in Mandaue City, Cabilla faced ALA boxer Jerson Mancio for the Philippine light flyweight title. He was stopped by Mancio in the fifth round.

In the supporting main event,  Silvano’s stablemate and Philippine No.7 flyweight contender Jason Canoy will face Ryan Bongcawil of the Bukidnon-based Kaamino Stable.   The undefeated Jack “Golden Boy” Tepora faces JR Salvador of the Phil-Australia Boxing Club (PABC) in another bout.
