ROAD improvement projects in Cebu City’s south district will proceed next month.
Cebu Engineering District head Nicomedes Leonor clarified that coordination with City Hall was done by the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) months ago.
He said their office has not received any communication from Mayor Michael Rama about his complaints about traffic in a newly started road project in San Nicolas and Guadalupe.
“We are amenable to not implementing the projects simultaneously, if that is the concern of our mayor. But we have to wait for a formal communication,” he told Cebu Daily News.
The road projects will be funded from realigned funds of the deferred flyover project proposed by south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña near the Mormon shrine in Doña Modesta Gaisano Street in barangay Lahug.
The realignment of the budget worth P158 million was approved by DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson according to Leonor.
Rama on Thursday expressed his “disgust” to DPWH because of the agency’s failure to coordinate with the city government.
The mayor, who left for South Korea last Thursday night, said that he would call a stakeholders meeting when he returns on Monday to discuss his concerns on the DPWH road projects.
Rama said that while roads proposed for rehabilitation in the south were still in good shape, many north district roads need immediate repair.
Also, he was worried about how road repair works would affect traffic flow.
Rama who inspected south district roads scheduled for repair last Thursday said he wants the container vans placed in the San Nicolas Church removed because they are obstructing traffic.
Leonar said DPWH would look into this.
The Guadalupe Road construction amounting to about P32 million was awarded to Socor Construction.
