4 Chief Justice nominees to face JBC’s last day of interview

The members of the Judicial and Bar Council.

MANILA, Philippines – The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will continue on Friday the interview of candidates for the Chief Justice post.

Scheduled on Day 4, the last day of interview, are Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Teresita J. Herbosa, former Executive Secretary Ronaldo B. Zamora, Supreme Court Associate Justices Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno, and Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr.

The JBC panel has already interviewed Presidential Commission on Good Government Chair Andres B. Bautista, lawyer Soledad M. Cagampang-De Castro, Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima, De La Salle University Law Dean Jose Manuel I. Diokno, Solicitor General Francis H. Jardeleza, lawyer Maria Carolina T. Legarda, Supreme Court Justice Roberto A. Abad, lawyer Rafael A. Morales, former University of the Philippines law dean Raul C. Pangalangan, SC Justice Arturo D. Brion, Commission on Elections Commissioner Rene V. Sarmiento, retired Judge Manuel DJ. Siayngco, Jr., University of the East law dean Amado D. Valdez, acting Chief Justice Antonio T. Carpio, SC Justice Teresita J. Leonardo-De Castro, and former Ateneo law dean Cesar L. Villanueva.

After the interview, the panel will deliberate on the result and credentials of the nominees to come up with a shortlist of at least three candidates .

JBC member Jose Mejia said their target is to submit the shortlist to the President Benigno Aquino III by July 30.
