Matugas powers Picpa’s victory over IBP-Gwapo

BINGO Matugas lifted the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) to a close, 92-91 win over IBP-Gwapo Wednesday night at the close of the elimination round of the Wednesday Club basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.

IBP-Gwapo led, 24-21 in the first canto but PICPA responded with a, 23-20 run in the second to forge a 44-all deadlock at the half.

PICPA unloaded a, 21-14 bomb in the third to post its biggest lead, 65-58, going to the final quarter.

IBP-Gwapo caught up with PICPA in the fourth resulting in several deadlocks and lead changes until Bingo Matugas drained 15 points in that stretch all coming from beyond the arc for the one-point win.

The win put PICPA to the quarter-final round next week.

Matugas led PICPA with 20 points while Edlin Endrina and Andre Tocao added 15 points each. Bads Del Prado and Milky Villamor paced IBP-Gwapo with 16 points apiece. /Correspondent Dale Rosal
