Police trainee nabbed for theft

A 29-year-old police trainee of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) was arrested in connection to a P400,000 theft case three years ago.

PO1 Louie Lagahit, a native of Tagbilaran City, Bohol, was arrested in a police training camp in barangay Gaas, Balamban town past 2 p.m. last Wednesday.

The arrest was made by members of the Subangdaku police and Investigation and Detective Management Branch based on an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Raphael Yrastorza of Branch 28.

Insp. Ramil Morpos said the arrest stemmed from the complaint of Fundline Lending Firm in barangay Guizo, Mandaue City.

Lagahit was accused in 2009 of stealing the P400,000 from the company when he was still a financial consultant in 2009.

Lagahit did not resist arrest. He denied the accusations against him and tagged his manager as the one who stole the money.

Lagahit said he was only implicated in the theft since he was in charge of the money.

No bail was recommended for Lagahit.

Morpos said Lagahit will face an administrative case for failing to divulge that he had a pending case when he applied as a policeman.

Lagahit was among the 300 police applicants who took oath early this month.

Morpos added they already submitted a report to the PRO-7 to investigate why Lagahit was still accepted and allowed to take oath when applicants are required to submit documents and clearances to prove that an applicant has no pending case.”/CORRESPONDENT FE MARIE D. DUMABOC
