Disqualified nominee for SC chief to appeal case

MANILA, Philippines—Lawyer Vicente Velasquez will appeal the Judicial and Bar Council’s decision disqualifying him as nominee for the Chief Justice post.

Velasquez went to the Supreme Court Thursday and asked for a copy of the resolution that barred him. He said he only got a copy through email.

Arguing that the process followed by the JBC in reminding him of the requirements is questionable, Velasquez said the panel gave him little time to comply.

Velasquez, together with Cagayan De Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez, were disqualified by the JBC for failure to submit documentary requirements.
