RAMA: TRAFFIC PLAN FIRST BEFORE DPWH PROJECTS

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is requiring traffic plans first before any road project by the Department of Public Works and Highways is allowed to start in the city.

Rama yesterday sent an inspection team  to the proposed road rehabilitation projects near the Guadalupe church, along V. Rama Avenue and M. Velez Street and the one in Pasil bridge to barangay Basak San Nicolas.

“The implementation of these projects was already issued a notice to proceed, but unless we give them a go signal, it’s a no go for them,” said Rama.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to implement cementing of the road surrounding the Guadalupe church. The project would entail removal of the asphalt overlay and replacement with concrete.

Also, he wanted assurance that the road project will be completed before the Dec. 12 feast of the Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Rep. Tomas Osmeña of Cebu City’s south district will be hosting dinner for his supporters and friends tonight to celebrate his 64th birthday.

Among those expected to attend the dinner party is businessman Jonathan Guardo who lost to Osmeña in the 2010 south district congressional race.

Other guests are Senators Loren Legarda and Jinggoy Estrada and Rep. Sonny Angara, son of Sen. Edgardo Angara.

Guardo is expected to make a formal announcement of his support for Osmeña and his Bando Osmena Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) group during the gathering.

Rep. Osmena said in a separate interview that he’d rather wait for whatever announcement Guardo has to make before commenting on the matter.

BO-PK insiders said that Cogon Pardo barangay captain Eugenio Gabuya was responsible for Osmeña and Guardo’s reconciliation.  The three in fact met at the Pavilion on Sunday night to talk.  Also in the meeting was Councilor Augustus Pe Jr.
