The late swimmer Teofilo Yldefonso was the first Filipino Olympic medalist and the only Filipino athlete to have won back-to-back medals in the competition. He won the bronze medal for the 200m breast stroke in the 1928 and 1932 Olympics in Amsterdam and Los Angeles, respectively. Born in Ilocos in 1903, he fought against the Japanese during World War II, survived the Bataan Death March but died at the Capas concentration camp in Tarlac in 1942.
