Danao City Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr. is predicting the defeat of his cousin Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale in Danao City in the upcoming elections.
During the 888 News Forum yesterday, the mayor said that Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III does;t have a hold over majority of the barangays in the city as what they earlier claimed.
The Barug alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasay (Bakud) lead by Vice Mayor Nito Durano is fielding Magpale as the vice gubernatorial candidate of Hilario “Jun-jun” Davide of the Liberal Party (LP).
LP and Bakud had forged an alliance for the 2013 election, while the One Cebu party which will field Cebu 3rd district Rep. Pablo John Garcia is allied with the United Nationalist Alliance.
Mayor Boy said there are three factions in Danao City: one is with him, the other with his brother Nito and the other faction is with former city official, Jesus Don Durano.
“I can control my group and the group of Mayor Don,” he said.
Mayor Boy’s son, Boboy is rumored to be considered as Garcia’s runningmate after Magpale shunned their offer.
“We are just waiting for One Cebu,” he added.
Garcia, on the other hand, said he will be meeting with Boboy and discuss the latter’s political plans in 2013 within the week.
“We welcome Mayor Boy Durano’s statement as it opens possibilities,” he said.
Meanwhile Mayor Boy reported that he has maintained good management of the city, especially in terms of finances, despite bitter differences with the City Council.
He cited that the city has now over P399 million in savings.
He also cited the Seal of Good Housekeeping award that the city received from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The DILG seal comes with P20 million to projects in the city.
“We have received that funding despite their their persecution in the last two years,” Mayor Boy said.
