THE Mandaue City Council will tackle today a resolution requiring the Department of Public Works and Highways in region 7 to coordinate with City Hall in all levels of project planning and implementation.
Mandaue City Councilor Diosdado Suico said he is filing the legislative measure in support of Mayor Jonas Cortes’ sentiments against certain DPWH projects implemented in the city that were not consulted with City Hall.
“A resolution should be made requesting the DPWH to consult Mandaue City mayor Jonas Cortes, the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) and City Engineering, projects to be implemented in our area of responsibility,” Suico said.
City Planning and Development Office head, Florentino Nimor Jr. is glad the local legislature is acting on the issue.
Nimor cited the P30 million national highway drainage project from barangay Subangdaku to Jagobiao and the road repairs in M. Logarta Street as some of the projects implemented by the DPWH without consulting the local government unit.
To thresh out issues, Cortes and other City Hall officials were supposed to meet with DPWH-7 regional director Ador Canlas last Monday.
The meeting however did not push through due to conflict of schedules. /Correspondents Norman V. Mendoza and Fe Marie M. Dumaboc
