CCCI spearheads grand bloodletting

In celebration of the National Blood Donors Month, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) will hold a grand bloodletting on July 28 at 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Cebu City Sports Center gymnasium.

This is in partnership with the Department of Health – Blood Center and Philippine Red Cross – Cebu Chapter, and in cooperation with Rotary International District 3860 Zone 1, Association of Barangay Councils, Philippine National Police Region 7, Philippine Navy and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Cebu Chapter.

The DOH-7 Blood Bank statistics say that they need at least 150 bags of blood a day to keep operations running. They cater to patients mainly from government hospitals such as Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu City Medical Center and district hospitals all over Cebu province.

Anybody who is in good health between 18 to 45 years old and weighs at least 110 lbs or 50 kgs can donate. They must not be anemic and should have a normal blood pressure range and a pulse rate of 60-100 beats per minute.

Blood donors aged 16 and 17 need parental consent.

Women can donate blood even if they are menstruating for as long as the hemoglobin concentration is normal.

The blood will be examined to ensure that it does not contain any of the five transmissible infectious diseases namely, HIV, malaria, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

Business establishments and employees in Cebu, police and military personnel, government and non-government organizations are encouraged to donate blood on Saturday, July 28.

In support of this activity, IBP-Cebu Chapter will also conduct free legal services for the blood donors.

This year’s campaign theme is “Every blood donor is a hero.”
