JOHN PHILIP Dueñas took time out from his triathlon training and returned to running with a bang as he dominated the Sandugo Rock and Run 21-kilometer race again yesterday in Tagbilaran, Bohol.
Dueñas, who will be competing in the Filipino Elite division of the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines in Mactan next month, clocked one hour, 15 minutes and 14 seconds to top the men’s race.
Dueñas also won last year’s 21k race of this race.
“This run serves as my qualifying for the Ironman triathlon and so far it has been very successful for me,” said Dueñas, who placed second in the second Mayor Moonyeen Durano Triathlon Cup and first in the Rebel Trails Duathlon of the Danao Revolution 2012.
He also had a successful debut in triathlon by winning the 25-29 age group division of the Speedo National Age Group Triathlon Series at the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa.
Despite being strong in his previous competitions, Dueñas admitted that he still has problems in swimming. “Running is my ace and my biking is getting good but I always have a hard time in swimming. I have to improve that [in time] for Ironman.”/CORRESPONDENT GLENDALE G. ROSAL
