THE Perpetual Help Altas aim to take the solo lead in the standings when they face off against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers today in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament at the Arena in San Juan City.

In the first game, the San Sebastian Stags take the floor after a lengthy break and battle the struggling Lyceum Pirates.

The Altas are currently standing at the top of the standings along with the reigning champions San Beda Red Lions, both  with similar 4-1 (win-loss) records.

With legendary head coach Aric del Rosario changing the culture of the squad, the Altas are starting to contend with the league’s elite as they showed in their recent 84-64 conquest of the St. Benilde Blazers.

JRU is sharing second place in the standings with the Stags. Both squads own identical 3-1 records.

The Stags last played more than a week ago when they handed the Heavy Bombers their first loss in this competition, 101-78. Lyceum was routed in their last game, 83-52, against the Arellano University Chiefs. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
