ROXAS CITY, Philippines—It’s down to two.
President Benigno Aquino III has come up with his own short list of candidates for the much coveted post of Ombudsman and it only listed two of the four earlier endorsed by the Judicial Bar Council (JBC).
The President said on Tuesday he has not met any of the four candidates who were nominated by the JBC for his perusal.
But in any case, he said he would be meeting “probably not all of them.”’
“Probably at the maximum three. Chances are, just two in my own short list of those nominated by the JBC,” Mr. Aquino said.
The Chief Executive declined to identify the two candidates who made his shortlist.
“Kawawa naman yung dalawa na hindi ko naabisuhan o yun isa na hindi ko kakausapin,” the President said, adding he will advise first the two candidates whom he did not want to speak to.
The JBC has recommended retired Supreme Court Justice Conchita Carpio Morales, Presidential Commissioner on Good Government Commissioner Gerard Mosquera, Justice Underscretary Leah Armamento and former Justice Secretary Artemio Tuquero.
