Baby’s death blamed on dad

A 30-year-old man who had asked a relative to bring his unconscious two-month-old baby to the hospital ended up behind bars after a doctor found injuries on the victim which led him to believe that the boy may have been strangled.

According to a police report, Jinsydi Galme was rushed by his grandmother to JP Sioson Hospital in Bago Bantay, Quezon City, where he was declared dead on arrival on Sunday night.

However, a doctor who examined the baby found contusions and a bruise on the victim’s jaw in addition to abrasions on the neck.

Based on his findings, the doctor called the police which took the boy’s father, Mark Renil Galme, into custody, according to case investigator SPO1 Johnny Mahilum of the Quezon City Police District.

In his defense, Galme told the police that when he checked on his son who was lying in his crib inside their house at around
10 p.m. on Saturday, the latter did not seem to be breathing, prompting him to ask the boy’s grandmother to take the baby to the hospital.

Upon questioning, the grandmother pointed to Galme as the one who had put the boy to sleep. At that time, Galme’s wife was at work so the boy was left in the care of his father who, according to the police, had apparently been drinking.
Charges of parricide are being prepared against Galme, the police said.
