Clash erupts again on Commonwealth Avenue, 2 media members injured

Once again, clash erupted on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City after protesters destroyed the metal divider of the northbound and Southbound lane of the avenue as they try to bridge the police line. Video by Frances Mangosing

MANILA, Philippines—Once again, clash erupted on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City after protesters destroyed the metal divider of the northbound and Southbound lane of the avenue as they try to bridge the police line.

Protesters started to march along the southbound lane, but returned running after few minutes when police dispersed them.

Big stones were hurled by protesters and two photographers—identified as John Javellana from the European Press Photo Agency and Noel Celis of Agence France-Presse—were allegedly hit and wounded.

Abellana was said to have been hit by a stone in the head, while Celis sustained wounds to his knee.

Motorists have been directed to move aside, but several vehicles were reportedly damaged.

As of posting time, anti-riot police officers formed a defense line along the southbound lane.

Human rights representative were also spotted where the clash occurred, but refused to give any statement to the media regarding the incident.
