LUCENA CITY — The body of a missing 9-year-old boy was recovered from the Pansipit River near the municipal boundaries of Agoncillo and Lemery in Batangas on Monday afternoon (Oct. 26), a day after his disappearance was reported.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Batangas said the boy’s body was found near Palanas Bridge in Lemery at 3:20 p.m.

According to initial accounts from the family, the boy tried to rescue his brother, who was reportedly swept by the river current toward a deeper section of the Pansipit River.
The 9-year-old was also dragged away by the strong current and subsequently went missing. The PCG report did not specify whether his brother survived the incident.
PCG personnel and local rescuers launched search and rescue operations, conducting underwater and surface searches, riverside patrols, and drone-assisted aerial surveillance until the boy was found.
The boy’s remains were turned over to his family for proper disposition. /jpv
