MANILA, Philippines – House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan on Sunday welcomed the creation of over 5,000 regular social worker posts to reinforce frontline operations for the government’s flagship anti-poverty Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

In a statement, the 4Ps party-list representative said that the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) approval of 5,703 regular posts for 4Ps will strengthen the implementation of the conditional cash transfer program for indigent families.

“For years, the 4Ps has relied heavily on temporary contract-of-service and job-order workers,” Libanan said.

Most of the positions will be assigned to 4Ps divisions across the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s 17 regional offices, according to the DBM.

“With the DBM’s latest staffing action, 4Ps personnel appointed to the regular positions will be entitled to security of tenure, social security protection and other benefits,” Libanan said.

Libanan had earlier warned that 4Ps workers were themselves vulnerable to financial troubles because of their contractual employment. /cb
