3.5T trees planted in Siquijor

AT least 3,500 seedlings of various tree species from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Siquijor were planted in DENR-timberland areas in the province since the launching of the National Greening Program in June.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer Antonio Cabrido said DENR is strongly advocating for the reforestation of all available timberland and mangrove areas, mine sites, watersheds, abandoned and other areas suitable for greening program to fight global warming.

Cabrido said the DENR has identified 251 hectares of timberland areas and another 200 hectares identified by DENR, Department of Agrarian Reform and the Department of Agriculture in Siquijor for  massive tree planting.

To ensure good survival of the seedlings, DENR also conducted an orientation on the proper tree planting.

He encouraged schools and barangays to plant more, with each student expected to plant at least ten seedlings each year and each barangay to plant 25,000 per year.
