TANOD HURT

A BARANGAY tanod was injured in an ambush by an unidentified assailant while he headed home in barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City, last Sunday evening.

Fernando Fernandez, 50, was rushed to the Mandaue District Hospital after he was injured in his right index finger.

Initial police investigation said the victim was headed home after watching a basketball game several meters away from his house past 6 p.m.

Moments later Fernandez noticed a barrel of a .38-caliber revolver at the left side of the road from where he was walking. The suspect was hiding behind a post along the road.

Fernandez and the suspect, who fled after the incident,  then wrestled for the gun.

Bystanders of the area rushed the victim to the hospital.

PO3 Nersas Baay, desk officer on duty of Centro police station, told Cebu Daily News the victim didn’t see the suspect’s face since he was focused on the gun./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE CUYOS

PATROL CAR CRASH

A POLICE officer assigned in Medellin police precinct is in hot water after ramming the patrol car  he drove to a concrete post in barangay Poblacion.

Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, said he ordered  the Medellin police  to conduct an investigation against   SPO4 Carlos Condino.

Police said Condino, married, was allegedly drunk and took the Toyota Innova patrol car at 2 a.m. He was injured in the forehead and other parts of the body.

Police said Condino had a fight with his girlfriend earlier and left the precinct to see the woman and settle their problem. At 4:30 a.m., Condino crashed the car.
