Ginebra’s Caguioa named PBA’s best for the week

MARK CAGUIOA stepped up for the undermanned Barangay Ginebra Kings as he towed them to back-to-back wins even without an import in the PBA Governor’s Cup.

For his efforts, Caguioa  was named the PBA Player of the Week for the period July 4 to 10.

He averaged 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal to pick up the slack left by injured import Curtis Stinson.

Making matters worse for the Kings are the absences of Willie Miller and JC Intal in recent games also due to different injuries.

More importantly, the wins over Air21 and BMEG pushed Ginebra to a 4-2 (win-loss) record for a share of second place.

Caguioa bucked some shooting struggles to fire a game-high 21 points and added six rebounds and three assists in the 89-87 win over the Express last Friday.

He followed that up with 19 points, six assists and five rebounds in the similarly gripping 89-85 triumph over the Llamados last Sunday. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
