MANILA, Philippines—A motorized banca capsized off the coast of Palawan Thursday night due to the Active Low Pressure Area (ALPA) that brought widespread rains to the country.

Around 11 p.m. Thursday, the motorized banca named “Irish” capsized off Barangay (village) Tinabog, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, due to rough seas and strong winds, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its report Friday.

The five fishermen on board, all residents of Purok Maligaya, Barangay Mandaragat, were rescued 9:30 a.m. Friday after the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) received a call about the incident around 3:30 in the morning.

A search and rescue team succeeded in rescuing the fisherman and brought them back to Puerto Princesa City, NDRRMC said.
