‘Yellow warning’ up over metro for floods after downpour–Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A “yellow warning” signal was raised over Metro Manila Friday by the state weather bureau after a downpour earlier in the day.

A yellow warning alerts the public to “community awareness” and possible flooding in low lying areas and those located near the river channels, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

“Moderate to heavy (5.0-12.0mm/hr) rains are over Metro Manila and may prevail for three hours,” the Pagasa posted on its Twitter account at  9:40a.m..

An active low pressure area and a southwest monsoon were causing the rains, Pagasa said.

The ALPA, which may intensify within 24 hours, will be named “Ferdie” once it becomes a tropical cyclone.
