Villarete in, Oliva out as city treasurer

OFELIA Oliva was once again  stripped of her position as Cebu City Treasurer.

Assistant city treasurer Emma Villarete, who was holding the position of cashier IV, yesterday took over the post.

“Based on the Department of Finance (DOF) order , I should have assumed last April as city treasurer,” Villarete said.

Oliva, whom Mayor Michael Rama wanted to keep as treasurer, could not be reached for comment.

She visited City Hall yesterday morning to turn over the office to Villarete in the presence of DOF representatives.

DOF Department Personnel Order No. 198-2012 issued on April 24, 2010 designates Villarete as acting city treasurer.

The order signed by Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima was not immediately implemented because of the issuance of a 20-day Temporary Restraining Order by the court.
