Fake PRC employee falls

Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have arrested in an entrapment operation a man who posed as an employee of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and duped the aunt of an aspiring nurse of more than P80,000. NBI Anti-Fraud Division personnel caught  Franklin Tanjutco, 54, a resident of Payatas, Quezon City, on Tuesday after he tried to collect more money from the complainant, Rosita Tambalo, in exchange for ensuring that her niece would pass this month’s nursing licensure examination (NLE). Tambalo told the NBI that she first met Tanjutco in 2009 during which he introduced himself as a PRC employee and offered to help her niece pass that year’s nursing board exam in exchange for P80,000. Tambalo said that she gave him P40,000 but her niece flunked the test and again the following year. Tanjutco, however, contacted her and told her that her niece’s name was in the master list of board passers and that he would give her a copy in exchange for P45,000. She gave him the money but she never saw him again until earlier this month when he offered to help her niece pass this year’s NLE for P6,000, prompting her to ask the NBI for help. Jeannette I. Drug dealer arrested

Authorities arrested the other day a suspected drug dealer who was also implicated in the killing of a policeman earlier this year. Operatives of the Manila Police District’s District Anti-Illegal Drugs (MPD-DAID) unit said they arrested Zainal Kadil, 27, inside his house at Block 9 Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila. MPD-DAID head Chief Inspector Robert Domingo said that Kadil, who is also known as “Zorro,” yielded three sachets of suspected shabu, a .38-cal. revolver and a hand grenade.  Domingo told the Inquirer that they have been looking for Kadil after he was tagged as one of top drug dealers in Baseco Compound. He was also linked to the killing in February of PO1 Edchelle Ayon who was assigned at the Bagong Lupa police community precinct of the MPD Ermita station. Ayon was shot and killed while he was on patrol  in the Masjidur Raheem Inc. mosque compound at Block 1 Aplaya, Baseco Compound. According to reports, the policeman was accosting Kadil and a cohort when he was shot. Jeannette I. Andrade
