Rookie policeman shot dead while coming to man’s aid

A rookie policeman who responded to the call of duty died in an encounter with armed men in Muntinlupa City yesterday.

Superintendent Eleazar Matta, city police chief, said Police Officer (PO) 1 Alvin Ammak, a native of Zamboanga City who was assigned at the Police Community Precinct 2, was declared dead on arrival at Alabang Medical Clinic due to a gunshot wound in the chest.

A civilian, Lancilop Padulle, a resident of Barangay (village) Buli in the city, was shot in the cheek and remains under observation at the hospital.

Based on an investigation conducted by PO3 Eduardo Rodaje II of the Muntinlupa City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, a brawl first broke out between Padulle who was with several friends and another group of men at a karaoke bar on Montillano Street at around midnight.

After about an hour-and-a-half, Padulle was on his way home when two members of the group he had figured in a fight with followed him and beat him up at the Montillano footbridge in Alabang. One of them later shot Padulle in the face.

The commotion caught the attention of Ammak and his partner, Senior Police Officer 1 Ernesto Parra, who were on patrol in the area.

Ammak was about to help Padulle when he was shot.
