Valenzuela eyes P87-M project

In a bid to reach the ideal student-to-classroom ratio, the Valenzuela City government has drawn up plans for an estimated P87-million school expansion project. The project is the second this year for the city which, according to Department of Education (DepEd) officials, has a student-to-classroom ratio of 48:1 for elementary schools and 54:1 for secondary schools. The figures are based on the initial enrollment data for this year and will be finalized after the July 31 cut-off period. Earlier, the DepEd pegged the ideal student-to-classroom ratio at 45:1 for elementary schools and 50:1 for secondary schools. Benjamin Gamaro of the Engineering Office’s Planning and Project Management said that the project was completed earlier this month with six public schools benefiting from the program. Makati jeeps, trikes offer P1 discount

Jeepney and tricycle drivers plying routes in Makati City will be giving a P1 fare discount to all their passengers today from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Makati Department of Public Safety

Director Hermenegildo San Miguel said the Unified Transport Federation of Makati and Ang Bagong Makati Tricycle Federation were offering the discount as their birthday gift to Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay. San Miguel said the two transport groups agreed to grant the discount to show their appreciation for the mayor’s support in promoting the welfare of public utility drivers and operators and their families. Meanwhile, the Makati government is also expanding the “green routes “used by the city’s e-jeepneys. City officials will launch today the E-jeep Heritage Loop route that will cover four kilometers starting on Estrella Street-Edsa terminal. It will cover the stretch of Estrella Street, J. P.
