THE Naval Forces Central rescued an endangered bird locally known as “kalaw.”
The bird was found by one of the caretakers in a Navy village inside the Central Command in Lahug, Cebu City last July 11 and was brought to Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) headquarters in Lapu-Lapu City.
Navforcen public affairs officer Ensign Joseph Ison said it was just proper to return the bird to proper authorities so that it would be back to its natural habitat.
Returning what belongs to nature is a way of preserving the environment and maintaining balance in the eco-system, he added.
The Navforcen personnel turned over the endangered bird to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on July 12.
According to DENR officials, the hornbill or locally known as “kalaw,” is one of the endangered species of birds.
They said the bird will be turned over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office for they have better facilities to take good care of the endangered bird.
