Manila, Philippines—Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Raul Bacalzo wants the investigation of the alleged overpriced helicopters bought by the PNP speeded up.
Talking to reporters on Monday, the PNP chief said he had given military probers “up to Friday to finish and complete the investigation.”
“ As soon as I receive the report, we will do corresponding actions,” he vowed.
Bacalzo said PNP will not hesitate to file a case if there were criminal or administrative liabilities uncovered.
He added that he ordered the two helicopters to be grounded until the results of the investigation were in.
“We will fully cooperate with the investigation with the Senate as requested by Senator (Panfilo) Lacson,” he said . “We will be very transparent, and we will make available all records that we have on all questions that may arise from that transaction,” Bacalzo said.
PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said last week said that based on a report by the Air Unit of the Special Action Force, the two helicopters delivered by the Manila Aerospace Products Trading (Maptra) were not brand new.
The PNP has tasked the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management to investigate why the PNP were delivered second-hand helicopters when it had bought brand new ones.
“We will file the appropriate criminal and/or administrative charges against those who erred in the performance of their duties,” Cruz said.
