Visayas grid under yellow alert
MANILA, Philippines — The Visayas grid will be placed on yellow alert on Saturday late afternoon, Sept. 26, said the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In an advisory, the NGCP said the Visayas grid will be placed under yellow alert from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This is because Visayas grid currently has a capacity of only 2,540 megawatts (MW) despite having a peak demand at 2,312 MW.
“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,” the NGCP said.
According to the NGCP, the unavailability of Visayas’ large coal plants TVI 1, PEDC 3 and KSPC 2 contributed to the region’s grid being placed on yellow alert.
Furthermore, the NGCP also noted that 15 plants are on forced outage in September, along with three other plants since August, two plants since June, six plants since May, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and and another plant since 2021.
Meanwhile, 18 other plants are running on derated capacities.
The affected plants make up for a total of 951.7 MW unavailable to the grid. /mr
