MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Robinhood “Robin” Padilla personally appeared before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday at the start of the preliminary investigation into allegations of obstruction of justice.

The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) filed the case for assisting fellow lawmaker Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in leaving the premises last May 14. Dela Rosa has a warrant for his arrest from the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a co-accused of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

During Friday’s preliminary investigation, the CIDG was given until Oct. 9 to submit additional documents. Then, the DOJ prosecutors set the next preliminary investigation for Nov. 12, where the defense is expected to present its official responses and supporting evidence to address the charges. /das
