MANILA, Philippines — Following the incident in Quezon City where a policeman was relieved after failing to give way to the convoy of President Benigno Aquino III, a lawmaker on Wednesday suggested a review on protocols for the presidential convoy.
Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Representative Sherwin Tugna said that installing blinkers to vehicles in Aquino’s convoy might be useful in ensuring that they are easily identifiable on the road.
Police Officer 2 Ricardo Pascua was relieved from duty after he failed to give way to the chief executive’s convoy along Commonwealth Avenue on Tuesday.
Aquino had been on his way to the La Mesa Dam when Pascua ignored signals of the President’s security personnel for the policeman to move his vehicle.
Tugna said that an investigation into the incident was also important so authorities could determine exactly why Pascua did not heed the orders of Aquino’s security group.
“He may not have seen the convoy, or he may have seen it but did not know who it was. We do not know. It is very easy to speculate,” said the partylist lawmaker.
