Davao infra projects documents subpoenaed by NBI
ILIGAN CITY — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) – Region 11 (Davao Region) served a subpoena to the Department of Public Works and Highways-11 (DPWH-11) on Monday, directing the agency to produce documents related to some 50 allegedly questionable flood-control and road projects in the region, mostly in Davao City.
The documents being sought include projects awarded to Genesis88 Construction Inc., which is owned by businessman Glen Escandor.
Escandor had donated campaign funds to Sara Duterte during the vice presidential race in 2022, a PCIJ report said.
The other construction companies named in the NBI subpoena as “co-contractors” of Genesis88 in some projects are Gemma Construction Supply, Agong Builders and Construction Supply, and Vicente T. Lao Construction.
The subpoena seeks to compel the DPWH-11 to submit documents relevant to the NBI’s investigation being conducted for alleged violation of Republic Act (RA) 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and RA 9160 or the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2001.
NBI-11 Director Atty. Rentao Garbo served the subpoena to DPWH-11 Regional Director Engr. Juby Cordon in Davao City.
Cordon was directed to report to the NBI main office in Pasay City at 1 p.m. on Sept. 24, a copy of the subpoena obtained by the Inquirer showed. /gsg
