Meat trader shot dead in Antipolo City market

MANILA, Philippines—A 48-year-old meat trader was shot dead by a lone gunman at a market in Antipolo City early Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as Roberto Mamita, 48, of Barangay (village) Inarawan, Antipolo City. He had been renting a stall at Rublou Market Place along Marcos Highway to sell his meat products.

Senior Superintendent Rodino Elfa said the trader was unloading his meat products from his tricycle in front of the market place around 5 a.m. when a man behind him repeatedly shot him.

The victim died on the spot from bullet wounds in different parts of the body, Elfa said. A radio report said Mamita sustained six gunshot wounds.

The gunman walked quickly away from the crime scene.

Elfa said investigators still had no clues which could possibly lead them to the motive behind the killing or the arrest of the gunman.—With Jamie Marie Elona, INQUIRER.net
