LTFRB probes data breach as platform goes offline

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has temporarily suspended its electronic support system (LESS) after a data breach, as the agency works to determine what information may have been compromised.

In a statement Saturday, the LTFRB said the breach affected the data environment of LESS, its digital platform and internal database for processing online applications and transactions and providing electronic support to public utility vehicle operators and motorists.

Extent of breach unclear

All LESS-related transactions and services have been suspended while the system remains offline as a precautionary measure.

The LTFRB also directed its offices and personnel not to use LESS until further notice.

The agency said it was working with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, and National Privacy Commission to restore the system and secure its data.

Technical validation was still underway to determine whether any data had been compromised and, if so, the extent of the breach.

The LTFRB said it was treating the incident with “utmost urgency” and taking measures to safeguard information entrusted to the agency.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding,” it said, adding that further updates would be issued once verified information became available. INQ
