HLI tillers should get land, say SolGen and DAR chief

MANILA, Philippines—The government continues to believe that Hacienda Lusita land should be distributed to farmers and will appeal the Supreme Court ruling giving them a choice on whether to get land or stocks.

This was according to Solicitor General Jose Anselmo Cadiz and Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio Delos Reyes, who said that under the agrarian reform law, the land must be distributed.

Cadiz said the government believes distributing stocks was no longer an option under the law.
