10 teams compete in UBCA inter-sitio basketball
A TOTAL of 10 teams are vying in the Upper Bayanihan Catholic Association (UBCA) Inter-Sitio-2012 Mayor’s Cup basketball tournament which opened last Sunday at the Quiot Sports Complex.
Cebu City Mayor Michael L. Rama was the opening ceremony’s main guest. The opening was highlighted by the selection of the Miss UBCA Inter-Sitio Mayor’s Cup-2012 won by Quiot Proper team muse Chyra Mae Russel Briones. She received a trophy and P1,000 cash.
In the tournament’s opening match, San Carlos Heights trounced Gemelina, 100-85.
Gemelina jumped to an impressive, 24-16 lead in the opening period but San Carlos Heights outscored Gemelina, 33-24 in the second quarter to grab a close, 49-48 advantage at the half.
San Carlos then tore the game apart in the third with a blistering, 29-17 to bring a commanding 13-point lead to the fourth period, 78-65 and never looked back.
Charlie Sadorra and Niño Gilo led the Heighteners with 19 and 15 points, respectively, while Cris Cansancio and Jackie Fuentes paced Gemelina with 15 points apiece.
