MANILA, Philippines – Senator Franklin Drilon on Tuesday lauded the Aquino administration for pursuing good governance during his first years in office saying that this has been a major achievement of this government.

The statement came ahead of President Benigno Aquino III’s third State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday.

“Firstly I think the review of the president’s first 2 years of his performance would really indicate a serious pursuit of the policy of cleaning up, of good governance, and to me that is the key for many of the achievements for the past 2 years,” Drilon said in a briefing.

When asked if President Aquino should include the impeachment of former Supreme Court Justice Renato Corona as part of his administration’s achievements in his speech on Monday, Drilon said yes.

“As part of good governance, yes, but the impeachment principally was a legislative function although the president has made clear his position that he supported the impeachment,” Drilon said.

He noted the Aquino administration’s campaign for good governance has improved confidence of investors in our economy.

“The confidence, for example, of the investors is principally based on the fact that the president has not interfered with any business transactions. And the confidence of the investor is very critical for us to expand our economy,” Drilon said.

He added good governance is important in strengthening the trust and confidence of the Filipinos in the government.

“I would like to see the president layout programs along these lines, along these platforms that brought him to the presidency, and people I think will be looking forward to policies in pursuit of this program of government,” Drilon said.
