Farewell to the king

Last week the king of comedy, Dolphy, died due to a lingering illness. Millions of people mourned his death, as if a part of them also died. Dolphy was with the movie industry and made people laugh for six decades.  He got romantically involved with many women inside and outside the movie industry and sired about 18 children from different mothers.

No doubt, Dolphy was an institution and his rise to stardom was phenomenal, something that many people believe could never be equaled. I watched some of the films of Dolphy and they practically relieved me from my miseries. Last weekend some television channels had a re-run of the movies of Dolphy. I saw some that brought laughter to my face.

I think what was spectacular about the life of Dolphy was his involvement with so many women especially the last woman of his life Zsa Zsa Padilla who was 36 years his junior. Theirs I think was true love because Zsa Zsa stayed with him until the last and was an example of a strong loving wife to Dolphy and mother to his 18 children.

Zsa Zsa was 25 years old when she left her husband and started a relationship with Dolphy. Mind you the relationship was very successful.  Of course many questions were asked as to the factors that were responsible for the success of the relationship of Dolphy and Zsa Zsa despite their wide age difference. As a matter of fact many doubted that the relationship would last long.

I had the opportunity to listen intently to the interviews that the television crews had with Zsa Zsa and was amazed by the love that the two had for each other. Zsa Zsa indeed loved Dolphy so much and they had so many wonderful memories.

Today many would criticize the relationship: How could a beautiful young woman fall in love with an old man?  Is she after the wealth of Dolphy? But Zsa Zsa proved many wrong because she has showed to all especially to the children of Dolphy that she genuinely loved Dolphy.  I am amazed by their successful relationship between the two that went through and withstood many challenges. So good-bye to the king of comedy, Dolphy and to his partner Zsa Zsa: Good luck.

The good news is that the famous whale shark called butanding or tuki by locals was also spotted in the town of Moalboal. Some of the fishermen were hoping to feed the whale shark so that it would frequent the place just as people in Oslob did.

Feeding the sharks, nevertheless, has drawn opposition from some marine life advocates because according to them this will alter the pattern of life of the whale shark.  The fishermen have other things in mind: to lure the whale shark into their seas, boost their number of tourist visitors and gain additional income.

I am hoping and wishing that the people in Moalboal are ready for the whale sharks and for the tourists that would flock in their town.

The bad news is that a sinkhole was discovered in the town of Barili that has caused the Mantayupan falls to dry up. Apparently the water in the river that feeds water to the falls was drained by a sinkhole.

Local officials have cordoned the area near the sinkhole to prevent any accident from happening. Some of the residents vowed not to wash their clothes in the river where the sink hole is found. The local officials dumped filling materials into the hole in the hope that these would stop the draining of the water but as nature has shown us the water will always find its way out. I hope that the problem of the sink hole could be addressed effectively for the safety of the residents and visitors in the area.
