DSWD leads National Disability Week

Activities include a job fair for persons with disabilities and Walk’n Wheels parade

July 17 to 23 is National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation  Week.

Activites are lined up for the  celebration with the theme “Mainstreaming PWDs in economic development.”

The theme aims to promote the full employment of  persons with disabilities or PWD.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Council on Disability Affairs and  its partner organizion Accessible Environment for PWDs Today (formerly Organization of Rehabilitation Agencies) will conduct various activites.

The celebration kicked off  with a Mass at the SM City North Wing on July 15, Sunday,  followed by a mini parade inside the mall.

Today, a photo exhibit will open in Ayala Center Cebu showing PWDs serving non-government organizations and institutions .

On July 17, the registration of PWD volunteers for next year’s election will be done by the Volunteer Service Organization (VSO) at Ayala Center Cebu.

In the afternoon, a seminar on PWDs work ethics and barrier-free tourism will follow at the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.

On July 18, an orientation on volunteer management system by the VSO will be held at the Ayala Activity Center  in the morning and the “Tabo sa mga PWDs and Jobs Fair for PWDs” in the afternoon.

July 19 will highlight  tree planting with the Cebu Holdings Volunteer Program a Cebu Business Park and a medical dental mission.

July 20 will feature a job fair for PWDs at Ayala Center  in the morning and a variety show dubbed  “Lahat Tayo May K” and PWD Got Talent”  in the evening.

On July 21, groups will hold a  Walk’n Wheels parade  from  City Hall  to Fort San Pedro.

The government, through DSWD, is urging  local government units to conduct their own activities to empower PWDs  and involve them in mainstream society.
